Trade Arabia recently announced that US Hardwood Exports to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) increased by 18% over the previous year. That’s a total of just over $66 million in exports or 81,000 cubic meters of hardwood lumber bound for this region. Primarily driven by strong construction growth in this region, it spells good news for future hardwood exports to the MENA region.

That’s impressive growth for US Hardwoods, and a testament to the success of our friends at the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) and the message that hardwood producers across the US are spreading. US hardwoods are not only a sustainable resource, but also make a beautiful addition to any design element.

Safety-v2

Linden Lumber, LLC is excited to announce a new safety management system reiterating our commitment to the workplace safety of all our employees. We recognize that ensuring the workplace safety of our team is a collaborative effort on behalf of management and employees alike, and that we all share responsibility in ensuring that everyone stays safe, everyday, no matter where they are at our facility. We are committed to workplace safety, and we will continue to do all we can to guarantee employee safety at Linden Lumber.

Management Commitment & Employee Involvement

Safety is an essential value of Linden Lumber and we believe in providing our employees, contractors and visitors a safe environment. We strive to ensure that our facility activities operate as safely as possible, and we believe the safety and health of every employee is a high priority. Management accepts responsibility for providing a safe working environment, while employees are expected to take responsibility for performing work in accordance with safe standards and practices.

Worksite Analysis

A major part of our safety management system is identifying potential work hazards in each area and striving to reduce risk in these areas. This process includes a personal protective equipment (PPE) assessment, noise assessment and a chemical review of each area in the mill. Workplace safety is an continuous process, so expect future updates on how we can keep all Linden employees safe – all the time. The same rigor we’re applying to current work process will apply to any new facilities at the mill, and management will periodically audit existing process to ensure safety. In addition to these audits, we’ll be reviewing over 300 OSHA files to find creative ways that other mills like ours have addresses safety issues at their facilities. We also believe in transparency, and we encourage and expect feedback from our employees on how to make our workplace safety. After all, our employees are what makes this company great!

Hazard Prevention and Control

At Linden Lumber, we strive to eliminate workplace hazards that could pose a threat to our employees. Management has established controls to minimize the risk of workplace hazards including things like adjusting work schedules, updating standard operating procedures, and ensuring that PPE is utilized across Linden’s mill. At the same time, we recognize that workplace accidents do happen, and we need a plan to address these incidents when they occur. Our Safety Management System includes an Emergency Action Plan including roles, responsibilities, and appropriate protocol for communication in an emergency. Linden Lumber provides training and runs drills performed to evaluate the effectiveness of this plan as much as possible. A medical program is a critical aspect of this Emergency Action Plan, and assists Supervisors with how to address the employee injury, appropriate first aid, and how to transport employees to the doctor or medical facility if necessary.

Safety and Health Training

Training is an important aspect of any task whether you’re an employee, contractor or visitor. Safety training educates all parties on how to not be injured on-site, and more importantly, how not to be exposed to hazards at all. All employees will be trained on the updated Safety Standard Operating Procedures so that they will know and understand the hazards unique to them and how to protect themselves and others. New employees will be trained on pertinent safety procedures prior to being allowed to perform tasks. Contractors will be trained on safety topics as detailed in the Contractor Orientation.

Stay safe out there guys!
